The series focused on a squad of youthful-looking undercover police officers investigating crimes in high schools, colleges, and other teenage venues.The show was actually conceived by Mike Post, the noted TV composer, who had his house robbed and noticed a young officer in the station. He was told the cop was a "buy officer" who worked at a local high school. He mentioned this to Stephen Cannell, and Cannell turned it into a series.
